Read
This button is used for reading chip. After you put the chip into the slot, press “Read” button and get the reading result. If it doesn’t succeed to read, the red indicator will continue flashing. While after reading successfully it will display, chip ID and the green indicator will keep flashing. At this time it is ready to copy, take out the chip and substitute the special chip for Magic WAND, press “Write” button and complete copying, after that it will display chip ID ,at the same time the green indicator will continue flashing, if it fails to copy, the red indicator will keep flashing.

Generate Chip: Put the chip into the slot , press the chip ID you want to generate, press “Write” button to get the results, the green indicator will keep flashing and display chip ID. In contrast, if the red indictor flashes it means reading is finished, maybe you put an error chip or the chip doesn’t match with the device.
Copy: you need to read out the chip ID before to copy, after it read out successfully you will get the chip ID, just press “Write” to finish copying. While if the red indicator flashes it means the chip doesn’t match with the device.

NOTES:when you add the key, you have to put the Magic Wand close to the ignition coil and the key go through the hole of Magic Wand, then follow the key programmer prompt to finish.
1.Put the original 4D70 blank chip into the chip slot.
2.Press the No. buttons 8 and 3, then press “Write” button, the green indicator will flash and means copy successfully.
3.Put the chip back into the key shell, then take it to the car to add key work together with key programmer.

I used this VMWare Workstation 12 on a Mac to successfully flash the PPK on a 2012 335xi e90 today. it shouldn’t be too hard to make it work with fusion I don’t think. ISTA/P 3.56.1.002 is working awesome! In a uncompressed VM size with ISTA/P is 280GB.
Note: have to run it in bootcamp until we can find a workaround for mac users

Diagnostic tools can be used:
K+DCAN and ENET cables are supported for everything but MOST ring modules. For those, you will still need an ICOM emulator.

memory setting:

I would recommend anyone with less than 16gb of total host memory drop the VM memory down to 4gb or less.

 

connecting in either NAT or Bridge mode:

for use of an ICOM or ENET cable, you will need to use bridge mode. For general E9x and other K+DCAN vehicles, your network settings will not affect your ability to connect to the vehicle.

 

VMWare:

I chose VMWare because I feel like it’s the most stable and offers the most features. I may look into building a version with Virtualbox but at least for now, I’m going to stick with VMWare. I do however, want to get a mac to test with so that I can make sure I can get it working in Fusion as well as on PC. I think building an underlying linux host is a good idea, however, the idea behind this VM was simplicity and I feel like building it in this manner would be counter intuitive to that end goal.

 

Ublock instead of ABP:

I could install ublock origin instead of Ad Block Plus in Chrome to save some resources as well as speed it up a bit.

 

PDF Printer/CuteWriter:

Might be nice to have a PDF printer, like CutePDF pre-installed for “printing” from the various diagnostic tools.

 

Datens on the desktop:
I included these raw daten files in rar format for a reason. While they all are already loaded in NCSExpert, INPA, and the like. WinKFP deals best with one model series daten at a time. If you need to use WinKFP to program a module, extract that rar file and use the BMW coding tool to load it into WinKFP. There is a PDF in the help files folder on the desktop that illustrates how to use the coding tool to load the files into WinKFP. If you don’t plan on ever using WinKFP or programming some of these chassis codes you can go ahead and delete those or all of the datens.

Invested on Chinese ECU programmers, FGtech Galletto 4, CMD flasher v1251, clone Alientech (Ktag and Kess v2), MagPro x17… I read a lot, with each opinion. Over all that I read is old (<2011).
So here’s what I remember:

– FGTech Galletto 4: it is the best product, many times cheaper than the competition, at 40 euro you have a good Chinese clone for all cars, trucks, motorcycles, Marine, BDM MPCxx, BDM Boot Mode, checksum etc … Good support

– CMD flasher v1251: The Must, one diagnostic interface, for reading and writing flash memory on the CAN line (not K-line) of computers with motor MED9.1, MED9.5, EDC16U3x/CP, EDC16CP31, EDC16CP36, EDC16C3 and EDC16C9 fuel injection. you need this tool only for new vag ecus, cause they are obd, even tprot

– Magpro2-x17: This is very good for the latest ecu cars only and for Denso also you have good support .
All X17 owner will get new hardware soon, all in one tool, BDM, OBD, boot + +

– Alientech: Great tool, support is correct , but as soon as you want to touch anything other than car, it’s very expensive too (full 20 000 euros) + XXXX euro subscription.

Chinese KTAG and Kess v2 runs the same software as Alientech
Ktag supports protocols: BDM MOTOROLA MPC5xx
Kess v2 supports Line, CAN, EDC17 and MED17 and Ford J1850… and Kess v2 truck version is available
they both work good, same as original and without tokens limitation, perfect with checksum, compared with FGTech

Here is a experience from DK forum members who made this possible about how to reflash CARPROG Mcu AT91SAM7S256
Tool use: Carprog clone v8.21 firmware
We need the stuff:
1- AT91SAM7S256.bin
2- Jtag programmer
3- Jtag software

We need to prepare the Carprog to connect to Jtag programmer but first the flash need to be erased, the Jtag function in mcu is disabled, you can’t connect to the mcu before erase the flash. Remove the AT88SC eeprom from the board, please note where is the pin 1 in eeprom before remove:

Carefully lift the pin 55 (reset) of the mcu and solder a wire and secure it with a small ammount of silicone (you don’t want to broke the pin in the process).
Connect the Carprog (with the pin 55 dissconected) to the 12v supply, wait about 10 seconds and connect the wire from pin 55 to Vcc (3.3V) in Carprog:

Wait from 5 to 10 seconds after connect the 12v supply, the flash content will be erased and the Jtag option of the Mcu will be enabled now. If not work leave connected for about 3 to 5 minutes. Disconnect the 12v supply from CarProg full  and remove the pin 55 wire from vcc. The pin 55 must remain disconnected until the programming process is done.

 

Ok, that’s it. I make it; and you try on you risk.
